Aldenham V Tring - Sat 3rd May 2009

Aldenham fell an agonising 4 runs short of victory on Saturday.

Tring 160 all out, Aldenham 157-7 – Match Drawn

Danny Morgan and Karan Barot starred with the bat; they came together with the runs per over requirement having risen from around 4.5, to something approaching 7. They started to build a base so that the A’s entered the ‘last 20’ needed 120 to win (which at the very least made the maths simple!).

Karan was playing a very watchful innings against a decent bowling attack; Danny, however, went straight for the jugular, and his first 4 scoring shots were all boundaries (4, 6, 6, 4). Gaps started to appear in the field, and Karan then got to work. The two of them put on ….. in ….. overs, Danny eventually falling just after reaching a very well deserved 50.

Karen was joined by various people after that, although none of them kept him company for long, and neither did they do much for the run rate … So Karen started to do it for them …. Going into the final few overs it was a fairly consistent 6-per-over requirement, Karen getting most of them

Final over, and Aldenham required 8 to win, but some excellent bowling left us needing four off the last ball; Karen was bowled taking every chance he could to get us the runs, finishing on a fantastic [80].

Earlier in the day ‘Hewett the old’ had managed a credible 7 for 50 (and 2 catches), and Chris Munroe had taken 3 great catches, which would have been 4 had it not been for someone bringing in the boundary line by a about a metre! … a brilliant effort though, by Chris, to catch the ball and throw to Sen, all whilst he was still in the air!

A credible performance by Aldenham, albeit with a few of us needing to perhaps think just a little bit more on our batting skills, and our ‘focus’ on what’s needed in different circumstances.

Aldenham ‘Man of the Match’ – a really close one this. Had we not taken the wickets we did, we could easily have been chasing 200, and had Danny not led the way in such a destructive manner with the bat early on, we might never have been in contention. However, for the way he built his innings, the way he accelerated in the final 10 overs, and for providing the backbone of Aldenham’s assault on Tring’s total, MotM goes to Karan Barot – very well batted young man!

 Other notable events

  1. Fantastic Tea from Chris Munroe (and family)
  2. Jerry being hit on the head … whilst inside the pavilion, and pouring tea!
  3. Itty turning up to a chorus of cheers … we all agreed not to mention anything about ‘you know what’… that lasted about 2 minutes!
  4. The additional white circle that Nic decided to draw on the pitch … mmm, strange
